Planning a Sourcing Trip to Pakistan

The direct answer: a sourcing trip is worth it once you have enough stock movement to justify it, and it produces real results only if the appointments are made before you fly. The days you spend waiting for a supplier to become available are the days that turn a productive trip into an expensive one.

Part of the buyer journey: Pakistan Sourcing Map: Which City to Buy In, and What Each One Actually Supplies — stage 8 of 8, with the other guides for this stage.

Before you travel

Arrange appointments in advance and tell each supplier what categories you want, what quantity, and which markets you sell into. Suppliers prepare around a brief, and an unbriefed visit gets you whatever they happen to have.

Send your requirements in writing beforehand. That creates a record, gives the supplier something to prepare, and lets you compare several suppliers’ responses before you arrive.

On site

Count in person. Sample from random cartons. Photograph continuously. And check the packing and loading rather than only the showroom, because the showroom and the warehouse are not always the same quality of truth.

Spend the time on the things that cannot be done remotely: size run verification, grade verification, carton and labelling checks, and the loading process.

Making the trip pay

Group visits by category and by area so you are not travelling between meetings all day. Build in time to revisit, because the second visit to a supplier after you have seen three others is where you realise which one was actually best.

Do not negotiate hard on the first meeting. Establish the specification and the range of prices, then come back. Pushing for price before you know the lot is the most common way buyers end up paying for the wrong goods.

What stocklots are available right now?

Reading is step one. Send your requirement and we will check the factory network for current options.

Buyer questions, answered

How long should a sourcing trip be?

Two to three full working days is a realistic minimum for verification work. Shorter trips tend to produce impressions rather than facts, and you need time to revisit suppliers after comparison.

Do I need to visit every factory?

No. Visit enough to understand the standard, and then rely on inspection for the specific lot you are buying. The trip establishes what good looks like; the inspection confirms a specific shipment.

Is a sourcing trip worth it for a small buyer?

Only once you are moving stock regularly. For a single small order, arranging a third-party inspection or a live video verification is a better use of the money.
